AAUW Atlanta Bookfair

What Is Bookfair?

Bookfair turns gently used, donated books into opportunities for women and girls. Members from both the AAUW Atlanta and Cobb Branches work year-round gathering donated books. These books are sorted, cleaned, and priced for sale to book lovers who not only get a book at a bargain price – they know that proceeds from their purchase will go towards funding AAUW scholarships for deserving recipients and other philanthropic endeavors.

Bookfair sells books:

Visit the Bookfair website at bookfairaauw.org for details on how you, your family and friends can shop Bookfair and get great reads at a great price … and help us do some great things for our community with the proceeds!

Have Books to Donate?

Bookfair accepts donated books in good condition (no missing covers and no musty, marked, or stained pages) year-round. We are unable to accept magazines or encyclopedias for resale. Books that cannot be sold due to condition are recycled. Unsold books may also be donated to other 501(c)(3) charities.
Your donation may be deductible under the law.

Donations can be made 24X7 at one of our book drops.

Want to Get Involved?

Bookfair’s sales of preowned books is now the primary fundraising activity of the Atlanta and Cobb County Branches, supporting scholarship programs and donations to other worthy causes.

There are many things that you can do to be a part of this important fundraising activity (on a flexible schedule). These include picking up donated books from our book drops and bringing them into our Bookroom in Buckhead; sorting and pricing donated books; listing books for sale on Amazon; shipping purchased books out to our online customers; merchandising activities at Westside Market Toco Hills; signing up for a shift of cashiering or serving as sales personnel at one of our special sales events (typically held at Westside Market Toco Hill).

As Bookfair has grown – the opportunity to ‘share the wealth’ of donated books with other worthy causes has too. We work with Books for Africa, allocating a portion of the donated books we take in that meet that organization’s needs as well as making monetary donations. We also make periodic book donations to local elementary schools and the libraries of women’s prisons. We need more helping hands for these activities as well!

If you are not yet involved with Bookfair and are interested in getting involved … please let us know by contacting Bookfair via phone or email:

Bookfair’s History

1960 The Atlanta Branch held its first 3-day Bookfair sales event in a tent on the open-air upper level of the brand-new Lenox Square Mall. Members, friends, families, and neighbors donated books. The event was later moved to the open-air lower level near the Delta Air Lines rotunda.

1973 The Bookfair sales event moved into Lenox’s newly enclosed, air-conditioned mall.

1997 The Cobb County and North Fulton Branches joined the Atlanta Branch in operating the annual Bookfair sales event.

2005 Bookfair added selling books online through Amazon under the vendor name ‘Oldbooky’ in addition to holding annual Bookfair sales events in local malls.

2020 The global COVID pandemic forced Bookfair to rethink holding an annual sales event. Fundraising efforts continued with online sales only during this time.

2021 During the latter part of 2021, we became a regular vendor at Westside Market, Toco Hill to provide an ‘in-person’ shopping experience once again for Bookfair lovers in addition to conducting online sales as ‘Oldbooky’ on Amazon.
